Blair Waldorf then fully reigns at the private girls’ school, the Constance Billard School for Girls (St. Serena comes back wanting to be a better person, then she abdicates the reign of the school, not least because wanting to be queen again would be to declare war on Blair, and that on the Upper East Side means suicide itself. Although enemies at the beginning of the season, Blair and Serena return to be best friends after confessing how much they miss each other. Towards the end of the season, the poisonous Georgina Sparks, Serena’s former friend, appears on the Upper East Side to reveal that the night Serena slept with Nate did not end there – Serena met Georgina at the Stanhope Hotel and a man died in their presence under the influence of drugs, while they were recorded almost having sex. Initially, it was thought that the reason for Serena’s escape was the betrayal that had made her best friend Blair, sleeping with Nate Archibald, Blair’s boyfriend. The first season focuses on Serena’s return to the Upper East Side, the mystery of what made her leave and why she is trying to change from a rebellious girl to a good girl. As of the fifth season Jenny Humphrey ( Taylor Momsen ) and Vanessa Abrams ( Jessica Szohr ) leave the cast of the series, but make some cameos.

Also part of the plot are Serena’s brother Erik ( Connor Paolo ), his mother Lily van der Woodsen ( Kelly Rutherford ) and Rufus Humphrey ( Matthew Settle ), separated from his wife Alison (Susan Misner), parents of Dan and Jenny and an imposter, Ivy Dickens ( Kaylee DeFer) who passes for Serena’s cousin (This enters the series in the fourth season and becomes the main character in the fifth season). Also involved in the plot are Nate Archibald ( Chace Crawford ) and his childhood friend, Chuck Bass ( Ed Westwick ), and the previously “erased” brothers Dan Humphrey ( Penn Badgley ) and Jenny Humphrey ( Taylor Momsen ), as well as Dan’s childhood friend Vanessa Abrams ( Jessica Szohr ). Hurted by the fact that Serena did not give any news and that she went through serious family problems alone, Blair Waldorf ( Leighton Meester ) starts by socially excluding her best friend and keeping her distance from Serena, as punishment for the total loss of contact during her absence. Since then, Serena has become Gossip Girl’s favorite victim.
Gossip Girl narrates the scandals of Serena and her friends since Serena’s eighth grade, when the girl got her white dress all wet inside a plane on the school trip. The events and stories of each character are narrated on a website by an anonymous blogger (voice by Kristen Bell), which goes by the pseudonym “Gossip Girl”. In short my rating started with a 10, bounced between 9 and 5 and was saved by the ending with 8 as the result.The series, about young students from elite schools on the Upper East Side of Manhattan in New York, follows when Serena van der Woodsen ( Blake Lively ) returns to the city after spending six months away at boarding school and staying out of reach of friends. The concept alone was great and even the worst episode had it high points. It was just that their characters were getting soooooooo annoying. Not that the young ladies were not fantastic in their collective rolls. Fortunately, the guys kept it together enough to keep me interested. If not for the occasional surprise to breakup the predictability and add new characters I might have given up. The scheming, betrayals, and back-stabbing was getting on my nerves. Same old stuff over and over only with a make over. The first two seasons showed me why it was such a talked about series.
But, and there is always a but, I just had to know how the series ended, having no fore knowledge. At one point during my binge I felt enough is enough is enough and almost stopped. From start to finish there is so much wrong with it and so much right it left me loving it and hating it. It's 2020 and I finally got around to watching this series.
